King Devanmpiyatissa also established Mihintale as a zone of peace. There should be no aggression and animal hunting there. Traces of the propagation of Buddhist teachings in Mihintale can now be seen in sculpture, sculpture, ponds and stupas. This site is also a place of pilgrimage for Buddhists.

Poson is commemorated when poya, that is the full moon. The celebrations are usually held at Mihintale and various temples in Sri Lanka. The celebration is filled with religious activities such as reading scriptures and listening to monks give lectures about the life of the Buddha. During the Poson Festival, the sale of alcohol and meat is not permitted.

The Poson Poya Festival is usually lively. Buddhists take to the streets distributing food and drinks. Besides biscuits and various traditional foods, they also usually distribute curry rice for lunch and dinner.
