Bubohu Tourism Village in Gorontalo Regency, Gorontalo Province, has received an appreciation from the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno for successfully qualifying for the stage 50 Big Award for Indonesian Tourism Village (ADWI) 2021 relying on the concept of nature-based religious tourism.

Bubohu traditional village is a village area located in Bongo Village, Batudaa Pantai District. In this village there is a natural boarding school for students to study Islam. Apart from studying Islam, Bubohu Traditional Village is also a place to learn to know more about the history of the Gorontalo Kingdom.

On his visit to Bubohu Tourism Village, Sandiaga Uno said that the Bubohu Religious Tourism Village was the first tourist village that carried religious tourism. Apart from natural boarding schools, the potential possessed by the Bubohu Religious Tourism Village, among others, Dulanga Beach, Masjid Walima Emas Bubohu, Museum Alam Karst, and Natural Wood Fossil Museum. This village is also known for its Walima Parade tradition, namely making walima cakes known as bama columnbengi and other traditional Gorontalo cakes in large quantities which are then arranged to form buildings such as houses or mosques to be then paraded around the city.

There are as many 11 billion dollars that come out of the Indonesian people to travel abroad. Half of it is religious tourism. Therefore, The government will develop religious tourism in the Bubohu Tourism village.

Sandiaga said the existence of the Bubohu Religious Tourism Village signifies the revival of community-based tourism, education, and religion. So that, this potential should be developed further to attract tourists, especially domestic tourists for religious tours in the country as well as moving the community's economy and creating job opportunities.

The biggest potential of this halal tourism is domestic tourists. Domestic tourists who are accustomed to traveling abroad for religious tours or tours that have the concept of Muslim friendly tourism. The Bubohu religious tourism village also has various other potentials in the craft sector, fashion, and culinary like cloth karau, painting of split fronds, colombengi cake, ancestral porridge, ancestral salad, apale, wheel cake, and cake.
