Seeing the economic impact during this pandemic, Tokopedia presents the Hyperlocal initiative, namely the Digital Market Program which has been launched since April 2020.
The program aims to help the development of business actors in Indonesia, especially local MSMEs.
Head of Tokopedia Public Policy and Regional Government Relations Division, Emmiryzan, revealed that the digitization of traditional markets is a manifestation of Tokopedia's Hyperlocal initiative to increase the competitiveness of sellers in traditional markets in various regions through the use of technology. “This is expected to contribute to the regional economy.”
In its implementation, Emmir and the team collaborated with the Indonesian Ministry of Trade and the local government to provide intensive assistance and education to market administrators and market cooperatives in various forms as well as providing a forum for sharing and exchanging information..
Currently, seven digital marketplaces have joined Tokopedia. Among others Cikurubuk Market in Tasikmalaya, Sabilulungan Market in Bandung Regency, Cihapit Market in Bandung City, Beringharjo Market in Yogyakarta, New Market in Tangerang, Kampung Baru Market and East Pa'baeng-baeng Market in Makassar.
Since launching in November 2020 then, Sabilulungan Cicalengka Healthy Market, for example, has supported hundreds of local traders affected by the pandemic.
While, since joining Tokopedia in April 2020, slowly the number of products sold at the Cikurubuk Online Market is almost reaching 40 thousand products.
Beringharjo Market in Yogyakarta which was just launched in June 2021 then on the other hand it has facilitated dozens of market traders selling through the use of the Tokopedia platform in the midst of a pandemic.
Kampung Baru Market and East Pa'baeng-baeng Market in Makassar which were launched in July 2021 has also accommodated dozens of traders.
In the future, Tokopedia through Emmir said it would increase cooperation with local governments in various parts of Indonesia to digitize various traditional markets, "What will be realized in the near future is the digitization of traditional markets in East Java and Bali Provinces."
