Singapore introduced as many 15 a retail brand that made it one of the first sellers in the world to offer a wide range of unique products. These products are the result of parts and materials recycled from Singapore Airlines commercial aircraft (BE) which is no longer used.
These products are also available in Tocco Toscano's online store and physical store, as well as at KrisShop.com. Fashion label Tocco Toscano starts selling pouches, purse, dan wristlet clutch, made from life jackets on dates 8 December 2021.
Then, on 17 December 2021, Supermama will be holding a workshop at their flagship store located at the National Museum of Singapore to invite customers to make their own cutlery, by using Singapore Airlines stickers and stickers inspired by the world of aviation designed by Supermama. This collection of recycled cutlery will begin trading in January 2022.
ANS.ON, ipse ipsa ipsum and Photo Factory will also be participating in this project in January 2022. Other brands like Beyond The Vines, Blithe & Merry, Bynd Artisan, Charles & Keith, Commune, [in]wheat, Protest, Reckless Ericka, Roger&Sons, and Ying The Label will gradually roll out their product lines in the following months.
SIA customers and aviation enthusiasts alike can look forward to a wide range of unique products made from recycled aircraft materials. These products include furniture made from Business Class seats, cabin window, and upper compartment, as well as clothing and fashion accessories made from life jackets, linen that comes from airplane pillowcases, sheets, blanket, and cutlery redesigned from equipment that is no longer used in service.
All of these products will be released gradually and will be available on KrisShop.com, as well as online and retail outlets of each brand. SIA will announce more details about the product through the SIA social media platforms. This collaboration between the retail brand and SIA is endorsed by the Singapore Tourism Board, and aims to foster innovative cross-sector partnerships and add vibrancy to Singapore's local retail scene. SIA is still in discussions with more local Singaporean brands and other international brands who are interested in working with SIA on this The Upcycling Project.
SIA will also launch the Designed by Singapore Airlines collection in the first quarter of the year 2022 featuring SIA's unique range of recycled products. This product includes a collection of aviation labels made from obsolete aircraft fuselage, and a bag made of a life jacket. These products will be sold under the Singapore Showcase category on KrisShop.com. SIA also works closely with SG Enable, a Singapore-based agency dedicated to supporting people with disabilities, in the i'mable Collective initiative. Under this initiative, SPD and Singapore Fashion Runway create lifestyle products made from life jackets and chair covers.
These initiatives are part of SIA's Upcycling Project, which aims to recycle and reuse aircraft parts and materials to create unique retail products and artwork. These spare parts will also be used to support educational institutions, artist, and persons with disabilities. As part of The Upcycling Project, SIA dan Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) has launched a competition to drive awareness of design and recycling among university and high school students in Singapore.
SIA also works closely with educational institutions such as the Institute of Technical Education, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, and Singapore Management University by donating aircraft parts and materials for recycling in art or design subjects. It aims to introduce the concept of recycling to students, as well as giving them the opportunity to better understand the aviation industry. SIA also collaborates with four prominent Singapore-based artists and sculptors, namely Baet Yeok Kuan, Kumari Nahappan, Sun Yu-Li, and Yeo Chee Kiong, to create unique retail artwork from aircraft parts and materials such as aircraft blades, bracket, and fuselage.
Mr. Yeoh Phee Teik, Senior Vice President Customer Experience, Singapore Airlines, say: “This collaboration with the Singapore-based retail brand has resulted in the creation of a wide range of innovative and imaginative products, almost entirely using recycled aircraft parts and materials. This is a rare opportunity for SIA customers as well as aviation enthusiasts from around the world to own this unique range of products in the coming months.”
