PRESIDENT OF RI Joko Widodo once uploaded a photo of The Caldera Toba Nomadic Escape on 2019. Through the photo, citizens can see the beauty of the panorama at tourist destinations located in Toba Samosir Regency, North Sumatra. The Caldera is located in the vast Caldera Resort 386,7 hectare.
In that vast area available camping ground with an area 2 hectare. The cool atmosphere with views of pine trees is one of the attractions of the Toba Caldera. The Toba Caldera also has a high attachment to the biodiversity and traditional heritage of local residents. Armed with that attachment, Toba Caldera made it to the list 16 UNESCO Global Geopark announced at the 209th Session of the UNESCO Executive Board in Paris, on 7 July 2020.
"Through this determination, Indonesia can develop the Toba Caldera geopark through the Global Geoparks Network and the Asia Pacific Geoparks Network, especially in terms of empowering local communities,"Said the Indonesian Ambassador to France, Arrmanatha Nasir, in a press release released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The inclusion of the Toba Caldera in the UNESCO Global Geopark list opens opportunities to encourage economic growth and sustainable development in the region. Local residents can promote local culture and products and create jobs.
The Toba caldera was formed from a supervolcano blast 74 thousand years ago. The base of the caldera is filled with water and is the largest lake in Indonesia. The beauty and cultural richness of the Toba Caldera make Lake Toba one of Indonesia's top tourist destinations and enter the '10 New Bali' list.
