Traveldiva.id — The end of year holidays are one of the moments that many people look forward to the most. It's not surprising that the holiday preparation process is also carried out long ago. Various choices of destinations and accommodation, both local and international, also often takes various approaches to provide the best service and holiday experience for tourists.

To see how it behaves traveler Indonesia is planning a holiday for the end of this year, Populix issued an annual report entitled "End of Year Vacation Plan Report 2023".

“Same as previous years, Domestic destinations are still the main destination for Indonesian tourists for year-end holiday travel. Our survey shows that the majority of respondents choose Bali, Bandung, and Yogyakarta as their year-end tourist destination, with the last week of December projected to be the peak of holiday activity. The high interest of tourists in visiting domestic destinations certainly has the potential to improve the economy in these cities. This must be well prepared by local business owners and local governments in preparing for the surge in tourists at the end of the year, especially amidst the increase in Covid-19 cases in the last few weeks,” said Eileen Kamtawijoyo, Co-Founder and COO Populix.

From the results of the study it can be seen that in 2023, 67% Indonesian people have planned for year-end holiday trips. Respondents' enthusiasm for domestic destinations is still high with Bali (28%), Yogyakarta (28%), and Bandun (26%) remains a favorite city for traveling. Meanwhile, Japan (22%) is the foreign destination most sought after by Indonesian tourists, followed by Singapore (18%), South Korea (14%), Malaysia (11%) and Thailand (10%).

Respondents had planned to go on holiday in the third week of December, but the majority (41%) will go in the fourth week of December. For this holiday trip, 48% respondents will be on holiday approx 4 days to a week, temporary 31% plan on taking a shorter trip approx 1 to 3 day.

Year End Travel 2

For a trip later this year, aircraft (39%) is the choice of transportation mode for the majority of respondents, followed by a private car (32), train (23%), private motorbike (22%), as well as various other modes of transportation. The airline chosen by the majority of respondents to go on holiday is Garuda Indonesia (53%), AirAsia (30%), Citilink (28%), Lion Air (27%), Batik Air (25%), Sriwijaya Air (13%), and Super Air Jet (12%).

The majority of respondents use online platforms (80%) to book their airline, especially on the Traveloka platform (62%) and tiket.com (42%). Apart from being the top platform for airline bookings, Traveloka (66%) and tiket.com (34%) is also a favorite platform for booking accommodation during holidays. This can be seen from 82% respondents who said they would use online platforms for hotel bookings.

On average, respondents have a budget of around Rp 5 million for vacation. This reflects that Indonesian people are becoming wiser in planning their holiday budgets. Reports also reveal that Indonesian people have a tendency to spend the end of the year with relatives, relatives, or partner.

On the other hand, Budget limitations are a significant challenge for 16% respondents who did not have year-end holiday travel plans. Nevertheless, they still have plans to spend their end-of-year momentum as best as possible, like exploring local tourism (28%), have a year-end celebration party at home (28%), go culinary (16%), worship at home (12%), visiting worship services in public places (8%), staycation (8%), or just enjoy quality time at home (18%). Meanwhile, there is 24% respondents who plan to work as usual.
