Traveldiva – Singapore continues to be a popular destination for Indonesians. However, starting the year 2026, Traveling to the Merlion Country could become more expensive due to the use of bioavtur in flights. Bioavtur, environmentally friendly aviation fuel, will be subject to additional taxes which can affect the price of plane tickets.
Enya Listian Dewi, Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, explained that this policy aims to encourage the use of more sustainable fuel in the aviation industry. “Mulai tahun 2026, Every flight to Singapore will experience an increase in costs due to the use of bioavtur which is taxed. This will make return ticket prices more expensive,” ujarnya dalam Green Economy Expo 2024 at the Jakarta Convention Center.
This cost increase is also predicted to have an impact on other flight routes. According to the CNA report, ticket cost for a direct flight from Singapore to Bangkok, Tokyo, and London could rise significantly, about S$ each 3, S$ 6, and S$ 16.
Meanwhile, Singapore civil aviation authority (AAS) still in the process of formulating detailed regulations regarding the implementation of this bioavtur, which is planned to be announced in the year 2025.
The Indonesian government is also designing a national policy regarding the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in the aviation sector. Eniya revealed, “Kita ingin mempercepat adopsi bioavtur dalam industri penerbangan. Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves) telah memiliki roadmap untuk memperluas penggunaan bioavtur dalam pesawat terbang.”
Pertamina, as one of the largest energy producers in Indonesia, is also involved in preparations to support the use of palm oil-based bioavtur. “Kami telah mempersiapkan langkah-langkah untuk mendukung kebijakan ini. We hope this will accelerate investment in renewable energy,” tambah Eniya.
With this step, it is hoped that the additional costs of using bioavtur can be offset by greater environmental benefits, while reducing the carbon footprint of air transportation. However, for tourists and travelers who frequently travel to Singapore, Preparing for these additional costs is something that needs to be considered early.
