Nom Bahn Chok/Khmer Fish Noodle. (Travel Diva/Rina)

The first months of living in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, to be very stressful for Diva Travel. Halal food is very rare there. First month, I don't know how many times Travel Diva has been stuck with non-halal culinary.

Even though I'm not a believer food combining, Fruit breakfast is finally an option. Until finally a colleague introduced Nom Bahn Chok, Curry vermicelli made from river fish. This is a Khmer breakfast menu.

Num Bahn Chok
Name Bahn Chok (Travel Diva/Rina)

Travel Diva's acquaintance with Nom Bahn Chok happened by accident. One morning in August, Travel Diva made an appointment with a top lawyer at Queenco Hotel & Casino. Before arriving at the meeting place, a coworker who is used to having breakfast invites him to stop by a shop whose travel time is approx 5-10 minutes from Queenco.

At a glance, there is nothing interesting about the shop. The design is very simple and the place is also not very clean. However, the unattractive effect disappeared in an instant. Even though it looks simple, The stall that offers the main menu of Nom Bahn Chok has a lot of fans.

During Travel Diva dine there, buyers keep coming. They bought the Khmer curry vermicelli, good to eat on the spot or to take home. Different from most curries in Indonesia which are made from beef, goats or chickens, Khmer -style curry vermicelli is made from mashed river fish. The vegetables are different. Consists of bean sprouts, sliced long beans, cucumber, col, basil, and mint leaves. All vegetables served raw.

Nom Bahn Chok served in a large bowl. The composition is vermicelli, then vegetables. After that, all ingredients are smothered in fish curry sauce. Because it contains basil, mint and bay leaf, Nom Bahn Chok does not smell sweet. Even, The aroma of basil and mint leaves is strong so that the curry sauce tastes different from most curries in the country.

Another attraction is Nom Bahn Chok. The vermicelli are made without the use of synthetic ingredients or preservatives. The suppleness of the vermicelli and its non-rancid aroma are one of the advantages of frangipani-made vermicelli. Dear, That morning was not a leisurely morning. Travel Diva must hurry to Queenco, meet the famous lawyer. Finally, it doesn't take long, a bowl of Nom Bahn Chok instantly disappeared into the stomach.

After breakfast, The drink to choose from is lemon green tea which has a very strong sour taste. Much more sour than the lemon tea sold in restaurants in Indonesia. The breakfast ended with satisfaction and gratitude. In the middle of trying to find a halal breakfast, Travel Diva finally found halal curry vermicelli. Khmer-style curry vermicelli can be the right alternative when you're tired of having fruit for breakfast.
