At the UNWTO event initiated by the World Tourism Organization under the United Nations Nglanggeran Tourism Village, Gunungkidul, Yogyakarta was chosen to represent Indonesia in the Best Tourism Village event, atau Best Tourism Village. This Best Tourism Village event aims to maximize the contribution of tourist villages, and reduce inequality in rural areas. Later, tourist villages that pass the UNWTO selection and evaluation will receive the title of UNWTO Best Tourism Villages Label. In this event, Nglanggeran Tourism Village does not fight alone. There are two other tourist villages that were also selected to represent Indonesia in the Best Tourism Village event, namely Tetebatu Tourist Village (NTB), and Wae Rebo Tourism Village (NTT).
In this Best Tourism Village selection, not fixated on the natural beauty that is owned, but based on the innovations made. The management of the Nglanggeran Tourism Village has succeeded in developing the local natural potential by carrying out the concept of conservation-based tourism, education, and geotourism.

Nglanggeran Village has also received many proud achievements, like a Sustainable Tourism Village 2021, Pemenang Asean Sustainable Tourism Award 2018, Winner of the Best Asean Tourism Village CBT concept 2017, CIPTA Award from Kemenbudpar RI 2011, up to 2nd Place Winner of PNPM Tourism Recipient Village with National Level Achievement 2013.
The main attraction of Nglanggeran Tourist Village is located on the Nglanggeran Ancient Volcano. Nglanggeran Ancient Volcano area is part of Geopark Sewu. This geopark has been listed in the UNESCO Global Geopark (UGG).
